I just dialled 911 rather than 901 by mistake trying to get my O2 voicemail messages and got the emergency services.
I thought 911 was a US only equivalent of our 999.
Possibly it is not the greatest idea in the history of the world to have such similar numbers with such disparate purposes.

I imagine that enough people watch enough US TV that they had to implement 911 here.
Cultural appropriation. I seem to remember my father telling me about an episode of the Goon Show where someone copyrighted the word "help," and then went round pushing passers by into the lake and charging a fee when they called out for assistance.
