Events, dear boy, events

Facebook has rolled out a new feature called "Suggested Events" that uses your account history to offer up events you might like in the real world. It is said to draw upon your Facebook check-in history, brand page activity, and the RSVPs of your online friends to compile the list of events. A Facebook spokesperson reportedly confirmed that the feature even utilizes your music sharing data — all the better to direct you to that concert you didn't know was happening next week.

When I took the Bomber and a couple of his mates to see the - highly enjoyable - Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows earlier this week, I booked the tickets within Facebook using the Odeon Events Organiser.so I imagine that would feed into the heuristic mechanism in some way.

Will this be useful or does it flatter to deceive like so many initiatives? I've already predicted, though less than seriously, that "going out will be the new going out" in 2012 so maybe its got a chance.
